What are you doing about covid-19?
All our workshops will be run in accordance with government advice at the time, and you can see our site-wide safety precautions here. Our workshops are run with small numbers of participants, and many of them will be held outside (weather permitting!). If your workshop has to be cancelled due to Covid, you’ll receive a refund of your ticket.
If we have to cancel your ticket, you’ll receive a full refund.
If you have to cancel, we unfortunately aren’t able to offer refunds. In exceptional and unavoidable circumstances, we may be able to offer you a refund less a £20 admin fee if we’re able to resell your ticket. This is most possible in cases of cancellation well in advance and is an offer made at our discretion.
ARE TICKETS REFUNDABLE?
what time does my workshop start?
Full-day workshops run from 10am to 4pm, and half-days from 10am to 12:30pm, and 1:30pm to 4pm. You can check your workshop’s timings from its entry on the calendar or the booking page.
Please note the site doesn’t open until 9:45am!
what should i wear?
We're an open-air site and run workshops regardless of weather, so please dress accordingly! We suggest flat, practical footwear (walking boots and wellies do well!), plenty of layers or wet weather gear if it's cold or rainy, and clothes you don't mind risking getting a little mucky.
What age is it suitable for?
You can find your workshop’s suitability on its page on the calendar or at booking. Most of our workshops are aimed at an adult audience, but many are suitable for younger participants as well. Under 18’s must always be accompanied by a responsible adult.
what do i need to bring?
For most workshops you only need yourself! If you need to bring anything else, you’ll be told in your booking confirmation email, and it will only ever be common household items. All specialist equipment and materials will be provided.
For our special overnight workshops, see what you need to bring here.
Unless otherwise stated, lunch is not included with our workshops, but you can buy sandwiches, hot and cold drinks, and sweet and savoury snacks in our shop. You’re also welcome to bring a picnic if you’d prefer!
what about lunch?
There is no accommodation available at Butser Ancient Farm, except for our special overnight workshops. For a list of recommended local accommodation sites see here.

Can you organise a bespoke workshop?
