‘A collaboration with staff, volunteers and members of the public at Butser Ancient Farm.

How did the people of Iron Age Britain celebrate? We can speculate based on the evidence from archaeological excavations but we will never know for sure.

In honour of the 50th anniversary of the opening of the site I will be creating a monument to an imagined god of the land, the way I imagine the ancient tribes that lived here might have once done in their village in order to celebrate and give thanks during the changing of the seasons, or after a period of long hardship.

It will stand as a celebration of Butser’s 50 year success as a site and its success for hopefully many more years in the future.

The figure will be made and decorated using objects and materials found around the site. Visitors, staff and volunteers are invited to come and make their own offering to contribute from Saturday 20th to Friday 26th August 2022.’
