May Half Term
28th May to 5th June 2021 10am to 4pm
Normal admission prices apply. Booking in advance recommended.
Join us to discover our ancient past and get hands on with history this May half term. Throughout the half term week we will have a range of hands-on demonstrations and displays bringing the past to life!
As part of our half term activities we’re taking part in Chichester Roman Week - Discover our recently refurbished and decorated villa and experience what life in a countryside Roman Villa would have been like almost 2000 years ago!
Based on excavations from Sparsholt near Winchester, our Roman Villa is ready to welcome guests, with a working hypocaust, beautifully painted brightly coloured walls, a mosaic floor, communal(!) toilets, furnishings and decoration fit for a Roman family to move in!
Enjoy a Roman food themed children's trail and hands on activities for the whole family to try as you discover Butser's timeline of ancient homes from the Stone Age to the Saxons and see our latest experimental archaeology projects in action.
From Wednesday to Friday there will also be metalworking demonstrations as we experiment with the art of copper smelting.
We will be following the latest government guidance in response to Covid-19, and will continue to monitor numbers on site in order to comply with social distancing and give the best experience for all. We are pleased to have been awarded a ‘Good to Go’ certification from Visit England in recognition of the steps we have taken to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit.
