In these extraordinary times the health and safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors is our most important concern. In light of the most recent public health guidance in relation to COVID-19 we have taken the difficult decision to cancel this event and Butser will be closed until further notice.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused. Please stay safe and look after one another.
May Half term: Roman Week
25th to 29th May 10am to 4pm
Normal admission
Join us in our newly refurbished and decorated villa to celebrate all things Roman and experience what life in a Roman Villa would have been like almost 2000 years ago!
In 2017 Butser Ancient Farm launched an ambitious villa renovation project to improve the presentation and facilities at the villa. Based on excavations from Sparsholt near Winchester, the villa is now welcoming guests, with a working hypocaust, beautifully painted brightly coloured walls, a mosaic floor, toilets, furnishings and decoration fit for a Roman family to move in!
In association with Chichester’s Roman week the farm will be celebrating all things Roman and showcasing what life in a countryside Villa would have been like. Come and meet Romans, make traditional Roman crafts and learn Roman skills as you explore the villa and its surroundings. Check the Butser website nearer the time for specific activities on offer each day. All guided activities will run between 11am and 3pm.
