A themed schedule of activities across the week to be immersed in history and learn new skills:
Monday – Stone Age Survivors
Tuesday – Bronze Age Builders
Wednesday – Iron Age Inventors
Thursday – Roman Rebels
Friday – Saxon Storytellers
Our Roman Rebels day will be based in our Roman Villa and garden, and will be led by the experts from the University of Reading’s Ancient Schoolroom project.
Immerse yourself in a morning of Roman school, with activities such as: writing on wax tablets, reading fables, calculating with beans, ink-making, playing ancient board games, and more.
In the afternoon you will get the chance to perform in a Roman play!
On August 22nd we will be focussing on comedy, with a performance of Plautus’ farcical romance, Miles Gloriosus, featuring an arrogant soldier, a host of clever tricksters, and laughs aplenty.
This workshop will include group ensemble games, one-to-one character work, and a 15-minute performance.
The performance will be at 3.30pm for both workshops and we strongly encourage family and friends to come and watch what promises to be an immensely enjoyable show!

What should my child wear?
Something practical! Flat shoes, plenty of layers if it's cold, wet weather gear if it's rainy, and clothes you don't mind risking getting a little mucky. This workshop will likely be held both inside and outside, except in the case of extreme weather.
Should I bring anything to the day camp?
Your child will need to bring lunch with them. They may also want to bring a change of clothes.
Is there parking?
Yes! We have plenty of free and accessible parking. If you're worried about accessibility, please email hello@butserancientfarm.co.uk for advice.
Where should I go on the day?
Just head to the entrance kiosk and show us your ticket as normal. We'll help with where to go after that!
