Experience the unique feeling of holding and flying falconry birds. Learn all about the nature of the birds and the ancient art of Falconry. Tailored for those who have a keen interest in Falconry and birds of prey, this workshop is beginner friendly. Experience an enchanting personal encounter with birds of prey and gain a basic understanding of birds of prey, their training and care. Learn about the differences between Hawks and Falcons through practical handling sessions and amazing outdoor flight experiences, with the birds flying to your gloved fist. A unique and awe-inspiring first introduction to falconry.

About the workshop

  • One day workshop

  • Practical handling sessions and outdoor flight experiences, with the birds flying to your gloved fist

  • Set in the unique surroundings of Butser Ancient Farm’s historic buildings

Paul Manning is Lord Montagu's Falconer, and has practised the ancient art of Falconry for over 36 years. He runs "Amews Falconry" a fully accredited falconry training centre teaching and assessing for the national Raptor Awards qualification, from Beaulieu in the New Forest. He is Chairman of the Wessex Falconry and Hampshire Hawking Club which continues the 1000 year history of hunting with birds of prey in the New Forest. Paul is also a member of the National governing body The Hawk Board, which represents the interests of falconry at a national and international level.

Entrance to the farm, a day’s tuition and expertise, and hands-on experience holding and flying falconry birds.

Please wear sensible clothing and footwear for this workshop.

Food is not included for this course. Sandwiches (subject to availability), hot and cold drinks, and snacks are sold in our gift shop. You’re also welcome to bring a picnic if you prefer!

This workshop is suitable for ages 18+.
