Learn about the amazing flax plant, still used today to create linen. Explore how to process flax using historic methods and wooden tools, to turn a dried plant into soft fibres ready for spinning. Discover processes such as retting, breaking, scutching, and heckling flax, then spin the fibres with a simple spindle and whorl. Listen to the fascinating history of linen as you process flax, handmaking some yarn to take home with you. The yarn can serve as a reminder of our industrious ancestors and could then be used in your allotment.
