Learn the most ancient skill there is: how to prepare an animal for the table. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn to skin, butcher, and cook a deer using traditional Saxon tools and techniques.

Under the expert guidance of Craig Brooks, author of cookbook Eat Like a Viking!, you’ll discover the ingredients used in Saxon cuisine, prepare them using historic tools, and learn to cook over an open fire in an authentic Saxon hall.

About the workshop

  • 10am - 4pm with a break for lunch

  • Learn to skin and butcher a deer using traditional techniques

Included in your ticket

Entrance to the farm, a full day’s tuition and expertise, a deer and all the tools necessary to butcher it, and ingredients for a delicious Saxon meal.

This workshop includes food. Please contact us if you have any dietary requirements and we will do everything we can to accommodate you.


This workshop is suitable for ages 18+.

Please wear sensible clothing and footwear for this workshop.

Food is included in this workshop, but you may want to bring your own snacks as well. Sandwiches (subject to availability), hot and cold drinks, and snacks are sold in our gift shop.
