Ben Farnell is a scribe and illuminator who specialises in medieval calligraphy. With a deep passion for historical manuscripts, Ben studies historical techniques to recreate the beauty and precision of medieval script. His work encompasses a range of styles from early to late medieval, and he is celebrated for his ability to capture the intricate details and textures of bygone eras. Ben’s pieces reflect his commitment to preserving and reviving the art of historical calligraphy. Through workshops and demonstrations, he also educates others, ensuring that the rich tradition of medieval script endures.

Please wear sensible clothing and footwear for this workshop. Lunch is not included, although sandwiches (subject to availability), hot and cold drinks, and snacks are sold in our gift shop. You’re also welcome to bring a picnic if you prefer!
This workshop is intended for adults, but suitable for ages 16+. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Accompanying adults do not need workshop tickets themselves but are required to pay the site entrance fee.
