Bronze Casting Workshops - May

Discover the metal that changed the world and craft your own bronze sword, axehead, knife, or torc in an intimate two-person workshop. Under the personal tutelage of master archaeo-bronzesmith James Clift, you’ll choose a design from real archaeology and learn the Bronze Age technique of casting molten metal in sand. Running on the 27th & 31st.

About the workshop

  • One-day workshop, 10am - 3pm with a break for lunch

  • Get personal attention with only two participants (up to four if you’re all one party)

  • Choose an item to craft from a range of designs based on real UK & European archaeology

  • Learn how to make and use a sand mould from a pattern

  • Discover the alchemy of metalwork and melt bronze in a furnace

  • Hear how to polish and finish your new bronze casting!

Please note this workshop uses modern tools to follow ancient techniques. If booking more than two tickets, please contact us to arrange privately.

Included in your ticket

Entrance to the farm, a full day’s tuition and expertise, and all the materials necessary to cast a sword, axehead, knife, or torc in bronze.

 
  • Please wear sensible clothing and footwear for this workshop. No open-toed or heeled shoes, bare legs, or very loose clothing please — we recommend sturdy shoes or boots. We reserve the right to cancel your ticket without refund if your clothing presents a safety risk.

    Lunch is not included, although sandwiches (subject to availability), hot and cold drinks, and snacks are sold in our gift shop. You’re also welcome to bring a picnic if you prefer!

    This workshop is intended for adults, but suitable for ages 16+. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Accompanying adults do not need workshop tickets themselves but are required to pay the site entrance fee.
