Many people ask if they can sleep overnight in a roundhouse at Butser Ancient Farm but very few people have the chance. For those who would like to experience a night in the Iron Age we’ve put together a special exclusive opportunity. You’ll arrive after the site has closed to the public and come to the roundhouse where Caroline Nicolay of Pario Gallico - professional Historical Food and Crafts demonstrator specialising in Iron Age archaeology - will prepare your Iron Age evening meal. Caroline is an experienced prehistoric cook and will give you a chance to taste the flavours of  the Iron Age with food cooked over the fire.

As the evening falls you can enjoy your meal either around the fire or sit outside under the stars on wooden benches. The farm is quiet and still as darkness comes and you may see some deer, foxes, badgers and owls that come to explore the farm at night.

Later, we will gather around the fire in the roundhouse to hear some Celtic stories from local storyteller, Dawn Nelson. She will tell the tales, myths and legends of the Celtic peoples and their celebrations.

As night draws in it’s time to settle down to sleep. You can bring your own camping beds and mats if you wish, or pile up some of our animal skins to sleep on. We will keep a small fire burning through the night.

Modern toilets and drinking water are available on site but no showers. In the morning you will wake from the Iron Age and return to 2021.

Caroline Nicolay was trained in archaeology and heritage management (in France), having worked in museums, open air museums ... and as a cook(!)... She is fascinated by the lives and skills of our predecessors and decided to share these with all. ''Pario Gallico'' was born! It’s name translates as ''The Gallic Cauldron'' in ancient Gaul language (Iron Age celts from nowadays France).‘’Interractivity and accuracy’’ is what they aim for!
