CANCELLED Festival of Archaeology - Life in the Past

CANCELLED Festival of Archaeology – Life in the Past

Friday 24th July 11am – 3pm

Normal admission prices

Unfortunately this event is no longer able to take place due to social distancing restrictions that would make our interactive activities impossible. The farm will still be open with more limited demonstrations and displays to enjoy for pre-booked visitors only.

To kick off the summer holidays join us to celebrate the Festival of Archaeology, held each year by the Council for British Archaeology to inspire young and old about the wonderful world of archaeology.

There will be a range of ancient skills and archaeological activities to try out as you get a taste of experimental archaeology and all the wonderful things that go on here at Butser Ancient Farm.

Last year our visitors joined us as we made bread, wove textiles, dug for artefacts, wattled fences, tasted Roman cooking, watched blacksmiths at work, practiced Stone Age painting and more…

This year we will also be joined by friends  from Wessex Archaeology, one of the leading archaeological units in the country, and UCL, one of the leading academic archaeological departments in the country. We work closely with both organisations and are delighted they will be joining us to share even more awesome archaeological activities.

All guided activities will run in sessions between 11am and 3pm.

Standard entrance prices apply and remember – we have tea, coffee and ice cream in the shop!
