Bring your family to Butser Ancient Farm for an exclusive, hands on, educational afternoon exploring the ancient past.
We have dedicated the afternoon of Thursday 1st October to families who home educate, to allow you to visit the farm without members of the public or school groups on site.
This exclusive educational afternoon will include a visit to each of the ancient time zones (Saxon, Roman, Iron Age and Stone Age), practical sessions where all the family can get stuck in and have a go and the chance to learn about how people lived their lives in the past. Activities will include archaeology, a building activity and creating something to take home. There is lots of opportunity to ask questions and discover interesting little facts from our education team. You can even meet and feed some of the stars from the Horrible Histories film (they are cute, woolly and bleat)!
Your safety is paramount to us, so special measures have been put in place regarding social distancing and hygiene. The activities will take place outside so appropriate clothing should be worn. You will also be able to explore inside our ancient homes, therefore a facemask for adults/older children is required to enter the buildings and our visitor centre. Toilets, refreshments and gifts are available at the visitor centre and parking is free.
The event runs from 2 to 4pm (gates opening from 1.40pm), starting with an introductory overview to the farm and experimental archaeology. It costs £15 per head, with under 3s attending for free. All children must be accompanied by a paying adult. Please respect social distancing and book separately as individual families. Places must be booked online prior to the day: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/butserancientfarm/home-education-family-afternoon/e-dvkqjj
